Destination: Rock Springs

One our favorite cool-down destinations in central Florida is Rock Springs at Kelly Park in Apopka, Fl.  This is also a nice day trip from Tampa Bay, St Augustine, Daytona, Cape Canaveral etc. and an especially sweet natural break from the theme parks of Orlando. Map it - it is easier . . . Bring a little cash for the $1 per adult admission, small kids are free.
This park features a Freshwater Spring which literally gushes out of a rock face and forms a nice long shallow rambling river. To truely enjoy this water ride rent an inner tube at a reasonable rate from one of the local vendors on Rock Springs Road appoaching the park $5.00 - $10.00.
It is a natural paradise for parents and kids. The best thing is the pure convenience that nature has provided. The path of the river bends around so that you only have to walk for five minutes to jump back in at the start again.  The crystal clear cool spring water flows in a shallow river to a nice open natural pool where young life guards keep a watchful eye.
There are picnic tables scattered throughout the park beneath the shade of the oak and pine trees with grills nearby. There is even a restaurant for those who neglected to bring picnic supplies.
Arrive when the park opens! The park will close when they reach capacity. As you can imagine, demand for a cool water swim is high during our long hot Florida summers so expect a crowd of fun-loving families.
